An extremely large field takes to this event over three iconic courses, Pebble Beach Golf Links, Spyglass Hill GC
Everyone will play the three courses. The 54 hole cut will leave qualifiers with another chance at the host Course Pebble Beach.
All courses are Sub 7000 yards in length. With the Shore course having 3 Par 5’s and weather expected to be mixed, low scoring is possible but not expected.
Pebble Beach is a classical 2nd Shot Course. Most fairways are reachable and play easy. The rough is deeper than standard in anticipation of Junes US Open.
The greens at Pebble are traditionally some of the hardest to putt on from within 10 feet on the Tour. Miss the green and scrambling from distance becomes a real problem, as does making par from Pebble’s notorious bunkers.
Pebble Beach Form
There are plenty of players capable of shooting low numbers here and have done so in the past. D Johnson has a decent record of finishes here with 3 Top 10’s. Another with 3 Top 10 Finishes is M Kuchar. He’s won here twice in the past with his other finish 4th. P Cantlay is another with
Average score around Pebble Beach from all rounds has J Spieth at the top of the pile with the lowest average of under 69. D Johnson, J Day, P Reed, J Walker, Snedeker and Mickelson also feature prominently here, having played the course at least 6 times.
Using Finishing positions over the years, Spieth, DJ, Phil, Day and Walker stand out. DJ will give you a run here for your money. Mickelson has been 2nd two out of the last 3 runnings of this tournament. If your looking a previous winner here at a price J Walker may be your man.
D Johnson at around 5/1 will finish Top 5, possibly win it, but is un-backable at the price.
Matt Kuchar at 25/1 on Toals.com ticks all the boxes and should also be in contention.
P Reed, S Lowry and B Snedeker at around 33/1-40/1 all hold value but also have question marks.
For an outsider J Walker at 100/1 generally could go close. His current form isn’t great but he does like it here. You probably won’t find him tipped up anywhere else and might get value on him after a round or two.
